Sheep and cattle scanning - Why is it important to pregnancy scan?
Sheep Info:
I am fully trained through Embryonics ltd to provide a professional and careful service in both cattle and sheep pregnancy scanning. It is best to arrange a pregnancy scan for sheep around 90 days from when the ram/ AI is first introduced. This is so the sheep complete 3 heat cycles aswell as providing the best imaging. I can make you aware as to which cycle she likely took to and give you an approx. days in pregnancy which I have had positive feed back on.
Also, Scanning is a highly valuable tool to identify pregnant and dry ewes in a flock. The ewes that are in lamb can then be preferentially managed, and there is the option to sell, rejoin or retain dry ewes for wool production.
Cattle Info:
Early pregnancy diagnosis is crucial to shortening the calving interval through enabling the farmer to identify open animals so as to treat and/or rebreed them at the earliest opportunity. Ideally a 60-day post parturient barren interval in dairy animals is recommended for breeding.
